Supporting Multiple Personas: For beliefs you don't want to broadcast

Not all beliefs are created equal. Some you want the world to see. Others to discuss in a private circle. TruthBear works best when you can express yourself, comfortable that it will be a faithful confidant. This post discusses TruthBear's first-class support for multiple personas, a natural way to show different expressions of yourself to different audiences.

People, AI and Content in TruthBear

TruthBear is built as a platform for humans to help each other understand the world. In 2026, that necessarily means people can and should use AI tools to help them. But only humans can be accountable for what they think matters, and what they believe. This post explains our reasoning, going through our learning from an earlier, more automated iteration of TruthBear, and our current temporary Claude user that we use for testing. We also look at how TruthBear defends against being swamped with machine-generated content.

No facts, only beliefs

TruthBear lets you see what the people you trust believe. There is an underlying reality but we can't directly access it. Instead, TruthBear's worldview treats facts as beliefs with a strong consensus. Where there is divergence in views, TruthBear provides tools, and incentives, to reconverge on the underlying reality.

TruthBear is open because this is the best way to reduce how much users need to trust us, now and in the future. Additionally, TruthBear gets stronger the more people participate - an inclusive open network will be more useful than what we could build alone.

TruthBear deliberately divides understanding the world into three separate steps: deciding what matters, gathering information, and deciding what you think is true. By eliminating distraction from what is unimportant to you, TruthBear lets you efficiently stay up-to-date on the happenings in the world that you actually care about. It also incorporates a novel method of seeing the world through other people's eyes - allowing you to step outside your echo chamber.
